The NEW OSH ERA project was carried out in four phases.

The first phase saw the launch of the project website and creation of a joint database, together with mapping of the European OSH programmes that were currently underway, which research areas they were focused on, and how the programmes were structured and managed.

In the second phase, a common vision and strategies were agreed for the project. A memorandum of understanding served to guide the activities of Consortium members, and an Action Plan was agreed by the Steering Committee, for joint trans-national activities based on the common strategy.

In the third phase, joint activities began to be implemented. A joint training agenda was created, and training activities began. Common review approaches were developed, as well as the legal, contractual and financial framework for trans-national cooperation in OSH research.

In the final phase, the programme of trans-national research activities was launched. At a final project conference an Action Plan outlined future activities.
