On 1 January 2005 the "Verordnung zur Anpassung der Gefahrstoffverordnung an die EG-Richtlinie 98/24/EG und andere EG-Richtlinien" ("Ordinance adapting the Ordinance on Dangerous Substances to EC Directive 98/24/EC and other EC Directives") of 23 December 2004 (Bundesgesetzblatt I (Federal Law Gazette I), p. 3758) came into force.
By introducing the Ordinance, the German goverment fulfilled its obligation to transpose several EC directives on OSH matters (Directives 98/24/EC, 99/38/EC and 2003/18/EC) into national law. The Ordinance also paved the way for the ratification of Conventions 170 and 184 of the International Labour Organization.
